Review

The debut guitar disc from the centerfielder for the New York
Yankees is no jock vanity project. As on the diamond, so in
the studio: Williams is a graceful player with speed, as he
proves on the first track, "La Salsa En Mi."
He's also a switch-hitter, equally adept on electric and acoustic.
He wrote seven of the 11 core tracks on this varied disc, from
the sultry samba of "Desvelado" to the springy pop
of "Bernie Jr." and the lush and lyrical "Para
Don Berna" (although a better title might have been "Para
Don Zimmer"). And he knows the value of surrounding himself
with a strong lineup, in this case Ruben Blades, Gilberto Santa
Rosa, Bela Fleck and others. This is a solid stand-up triple.
