BERNIE
WILLIAMS DELIVERS A REAL SMASH HIT
NY Yankees Superstar Scores
with Impressive Musical debut, the Journey Within GRP Album
Slides Into Third on Contemporary Jazz Chart
New York - NY Yankees superstar Bernie
Williams drives in an impressive debut with his GRP release,
The Journey Within.
The album debuted at #3 on Billboard's Top Contemporary Jazz
Albums chart; #175 on the Billboard Top 200; and #8 at Heatseekers.
The Journey Within is also the 11th best selling record in
New York.
Williams' major label debut reflects the
five-time All Star's lifelong passion for music, encompassing
his rich
and varied
musical palette. In addition to playing lead and rhythm guitar,
the classically-trained musician composed seven original
songs for the album, which was released by the renowned jazz
label
GRP Records. The result is a refreshing blend of highly melodic,
contemporary and Latin-flavored jazz selections with an undeniably
soulful delivery. Williams' talent has earned glowing accolades
from the worlds of both music and sports, as well as a publishing
deal from Sir Paul McCartney's MPL Communications.
The album's
first single, "Just Because," featuring
pianist and GRP labelmate David Benoit, is currently climbing
the radio charts. Other highlights from The Journey Within
include Williams' heartfelt tribute to his father,"Para
Don Berna," a reworking of the Baden Powell song "Samba
Novo," and "La Salsa En Mi," featuring background
vocals from 2003 GRAMMY(r) winner Ruben Blades and salsa
legend Gilberto Santa Rosa. Also joining Williams for his
first recording
is an All-Star ensemble of musicians including GRAMMY(r)-winning
banjo player Bela Fleck, keyboardists David Sancious and
John Thomas, percussionist Luis Conte, bassist Leland Sklar,
guitarist
Tim Pierce, and drummers Kenny Aronoff and Shawn Pelton.
Williams' recent live concert debut at
Chicago's House of Blues can now be seen exclusively on the
YES Network
nationwide
(Channel
622 on Directv). This exciting performance, which was
taped during Major League Baseball's All-Star week, features
many special guests including Ruben Blades, David Benoit
and former
New York City Mayor, Rudy Guiliani.
